Hughes STEM Facilities Plans
Hughes Construction Update:
Renovation of our original building (we call it the Classical Building) will be finished this summer, with our move-in planned for August, 2010.
If you’ve never seen the inside of Hughes, you’ll be delighted-- it’s a true architectural wonder. Come in September for Guided Tours—led by student Ambassadors & local Rookwood and architectural experts. You’ll see:
Historical preservation of the building’s most beautiful features:
- Original Italian terrazzo floors and most wooden floors
- Marble cornices & tiling in the main lobby
- Rookwood fountains protected throughout the construction
- Stenciling & stained glass windows in the Library/Media Center
- Original seats in auditorium
- Restoration work continues on exterior terra cotta
Updated mechanics:
- All new plumbing—clean, fresh bathrooms
- All new electrical wiring
- Beautiful new gym facilities & workout rooms
- New technology, including wireless and wired computer labs
- Green features: automatic lighting with daylight adjustment
- New roof & landscaping (in progress
Both parents & alumni (and many who are both!) will be pleased and our students proud of our beautiful, historic, renovated space.
ALUMNI ALERT:
Hughes Alumni Trustees are planning some very special events to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Hughes this fall, including a big gala celebration dinner on Oct. 9, 2010 at the Kingsgate Conference Center. Don’t miss these chances—let us know if you want to volunteer, or just be on the Anniversary List to make sure you get all the information on upcoming events. Call the Alumni office (513-363-7737) or email hughesalumni@gmail.com.
Parking
Due to construction, parking is temporarily inconvenient and will be for the entire school year. There is street parking in the area surrounding Hughes, or the Deaconess Hospital parking garage on Straight Street is available for a fee. Do not enter the Hughes driveways on Clifton or McMillan; parking is not available.
Directions/ “Finding” Hughes STEM
Walk up the driveway off of McMillan, near Krueck Community Center, then enter the main Hughes entry doors off the circle. Sign in at the reception office (parents & visitors), take stairs to the 3rd floor. Go left and follow STEM signs to the “Bridge;” go left into the Annex and the STEM office is in 105 on the right side of the hall.

Parents-give yourself extra time to park and find us: this is all very tricky during construction; we ask for your support and patience as we endure this before getting into our renovated building in fall of 2010.
