Career Readiness Opportunities for Juniors!
The class of 2018 participated in job shadow experiences and mock interviews as part of the Business-Education Connectivity Council (BECC) andMy Tomorrow initiative to prepare students for the careers of today and getting them ready to take ownership of the careers of tomorrow.
BECC & CPS teamed up with Fidelity Investment staff to provide a speed mentoring, mock interview experience for 30 Hughes Juniors. Volunteers from Fidelity attended a breakfast and overview activity to prepare for the event. Students spent 20-30 minutes with a professional who asked each student interview questions and provided feedback on their responses. Students had the opportunity to rotate to an additional professional to conduct a second interview and complete a student resume review. Students were prepared during Advisory about how to network with professionals. Students also had the opportunity to ask Fidelity staff members about their own career paths and current job responsibilities.
Students, in small groups also attended a one-day job shadow with local business partners: Cincinnati Children's Hospital, Aronoff Center and Cincy USA. Students who toured Children's Hospital got an up close and personal look at the variety of careers offered in a hospital setting. Students explored the fields of data & IT, research & clinical lab experience, as well as nursing. Other groups explored psychology, public relations and Human resources. Students interested in a more artistic and creative experience took a backstage tour of the Aronoff Center. In this experience students had an opportunity to learn about technical theater, stage production, set design, lighting and marketing.
Cincy USA also partnered with CPS and Hughes to give students an opportunity to learn about the career fields in Hospitality. Students went behind the scenes at two of Cincinnati’s premiere hotels, the Westin and the Hilton Netherlands Plaza. Students learned about the variety of positions it takes to run a large hotel chain such as financial staff, marketing departments, human resources and administrative staff. But that’s not all, students toured backstage at the Cincinnati Convention Center, Visitors Bureau & Meet NKY where students learned about event planning, marketing & the services that are provided to both local residents and out of town guests.
