Hughes STEM High School has a School Social Worker to assist with mental health concerns, behavioral concerns, positive behavioral support, academic, and classroom support, consultation with teachers, parents, and administrators, as well as provide individual and group assistance.

School Social Workers promote positive school culture and safety by supporting a sense of belonging and connectedness through positive relationships, enhanced self-esteem and empowerment to benefit the student, the school and broader community.
School Social Workers encourage Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and Development, self-awareness and increase daily attendance by:
- Helping students adjust to changes and challenges
- Identifying barriers to learning and referring students to services
- Connecting students, staff and families to resources
- Supporting crisis and social emotional assessment and intervention
